In the new 2018-2020 strategy, our goal is to “double our impact in half the time”. To achieve this, we will continue to focus on the agribusiness and renewable energy sectors, increase support to climate smart technologies, refine our challenge model, expand regional presence, deepen focus on gender, youth and employment by expanding our products and partnership approach to better meet our investees’ current needs and ensure they rapidly scale and transition to external financing and sustainability thereby attaining our vision of ‘A Prosperous and Enterprising Rural Africa’

Position Overview:

The Regional Manager – West Africa’s primary responsibility is to represent and manage company’s operations in West Africa. This consists of a portfolio of projects in Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire and other countries in the region, on Agribusiness and Renewable Energy. He/she should ensure activities are carried out for the successful establishment and growth of the company as a leading development & impact investor in West Africa.

Key Responsibility Areas

Work requirements and responsibilities will be guided by the company Department’s Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which are reviewed periodically but will fall broadly in the following Key Responsibility Areas

Leadership and Strategic Direction (20%)
Support the design and implementation of the company’s strategy and operations in the Region.
Lead the development of the overall operating plans, management plans and budgets for the portfolio.
Actively solicit input from team members, key stakeholders and experts.
Mentor team members on investments, portfolio and relationship management with investees.
Ensure professional, effective and equitable management of available resources for the portfolio.
Lead timely and effective performance appraisals in liaison with the Head Office.

Relationship Management & Business Development (20%)
Capitalize on opportunities to demonstrate superior customer service during communication with investees, donors and other partners.
Contribute to the establishment of appropriate linkages with the relevant state/government departments, donors, private sector bodies, potential project partners, and civil society.
Participate in meetings and events that create visibility and positive image of the company.
Participate in the dissemination of the company periodic progress and impact reports.
Leverage expertise and networks to support fundraising and business development efforts of the company. This includes contributing to proposal development and pitches to donors.
Establish linkages with the relevant government departments, donors, private sector partners etc.

Portfolio Management (40%)
Provide technical leadership for the marketing, application review and selection of Agribusiness and Renewable Energy projects.
Effective competition design and implementation.
Contribute to planning and achievement of quality growth of Agribusiness portfolio.
Develop effective strategies the enable recovery of outstanding repayable grants as due from portfolio investees.
Provide periodic reports on Agribusiness portfolios, information trends and other relevant information as requested.
Develop and implement portfolio risk framework, in line with the overall company Limited Risk and Compliance Management Framework.
Participate in recruitment and managing a high - performing team of portfolio officers and consultants.
Provide oversight to planning and execution of portfolio activities on a periodic basis to ensure that: implementation is on track performance targets are being met progress reporting is timely and accurate and resources are utilized in an appropriate manner
Responsible for the flow of communication within the Agribusiness team
Develop periodic portfolio progress updates
Facilitate and support portfolio audits/ performance reviews
Ensure compliance to internal controls and risk management of the portfolio in accordance with the wider company Limited Risk and Compliance Management Framework.
M&E Learning (20%)
Contribute to development and review the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and Learning strategy.
Lead / coordinate the portfolio learning agenda in a manner that contribute to the wider learning agenda of the company (in liaison with HQ M&E team), to further the reputation and capability positioning of the Fund, have a wider systemic impact on the relevant market systems in Africa, and promote relevant advocacy efforts.
Ensure continuous improvement of the portfolio quality based on learning.
 
Description du profil du candidat

 
Required qualifications and experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, renewable energy, engineering, finance or other relevant subject.
A Master’s degree in a related field will be an added advantage
A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, 3 of which must be in West Africa, preferably Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Senegal or Ghana.
Experience of management of a small integrated team to be built.
Experience in an institution providing investments, financing or technical support to businesses in the agribusiness or renewable energy sectors will be an added advantage.
A good understanding of the international development sector.
Some understanding of impact investments instruments and methodologies (e.g. financial modelling).
Proven leadership and project management skills with the ability to work with a diverse group of clients.
A good understanding of rural and/or financial services markets in Africa.
An understanding of the operations of donors and international development organizations.
Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to prepare proposals, reports and concept papers to a high level of proficiency.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-cultural teams.
Fluency in French is critical with excellent command of English is a requirement. Additional language skills will be an added advantage.
